Well I am on a pension(retired) and only have $100.00/mth to spend on my hobby,so I shop wisely.Usually $25.00/wk(Wed of course) and here in Canada we get a tax break,a rebate,mine works out to about $90.00 every 3 months and 2or3 of these go to my hobby..I visit other pet/fish stores in the area.Sometimes I drive my girlfriend to or pick her up from work.We pass a fish store either way and seeing She had a complete 20gal outfit given to her,we set it up at her place and she insists we stop:) and look around.She already wants a bigger tank, so i think I will get her a 40gal set up for Xmas.

I know what you mean,I have a Big Al's exactly 10 kilomiters from me:w00t: and end up there a few times a week. With my points card I get one point for dollar spent,doble points on wed. so I only buy on wed.

I have over 2200 points,can cash 2000pts in for $60.00 to spend,guess where my plants for my 75 setup are comming from:P

Well, I tend to avoid places that don't responsibly house their fish. That just leads to "rescue" buys, which can cause plenty of problems of their own. I mainly only visit a few LFS' that are knowledgeable and responsible fish keepers in their own right.

One store I like to visit maintains 3, 300 gallon tanks simply for tank-busters that people bring in. And they are very good about not selling tank-busters in the first place.

Sometimes I drag my fiancee or brothers with me just for educational purposes. They always look quite bored until I point out something like the pacu or clown loach or pleco or whatever, and spread my hands to indicate adult length. Then the eyes go wide and all of sudden they start asking questions about certain fish. I have shocked a few customers that way too.:)

...Or it can be extremely annoying to see the fish in crampt environments and kept under improper conditions.

You should see my girlfriend roll her eyes every time I want to stop by the fish store. She doesn't understand why I like to go to the fish store to look if I'm not gonna buy anything.

Sometimes it can be therapeutic to go to the store. You get to see all sorts of cool fish without having to shell out the cash for fish tanks.

I too am new to the hobby. In fact, I am still cycling my tank and not yet added any fish. But I am already experiencing a great deal of joy and satisfaction building the tank, testing the water, and shopping at the lfs. I am fortunate to live in a metro area and so I have more than one lfs to choose from. I find myself at one or another at least two or three times a week. Seldom buy, but always looking...

Yeah I have been keeping for about a year, and although I dont get to go very often, whenever I see a fish store I have to go and look, and they always ask me,"can I help you", and I just say no im just looking. Cuz although im always tempted to buy stuff, Im poor and cant afford. But I always have to look. It can get addicting. You never know what new fish your gonna find.

yep! i go just about every other day. and like fattfishy said, i usually leave my wallet at home to stop myself from buying usless stuff.

I'm a fish freak. I always go to the fish store whenever I get the chance. Although I never bring money with me, tempted to buy stuff as well!

fish keeping is a disease with no cure, i am always adding something to my collection but i have manged to eliminate a few tanks over the past few months and got 2 water dragons to replace them. i now have 6 fish tanks and 2 reptile tanks and 1 pond, and my 80 gallon tank is still not complete i want it an all male show tank and i have only 5 males in the tank the rest are female

Well shucks, I go whenever I'm in an area where there's a pet store. Going to a real-deal aquariums store's pretty rare since the nearest one is half an hour away and keeps odd hours, but I hit the pet shops every time I get a chance.

...but I try not to go right after I get money. MOA's right, there's just too much temptation! I usually walk out with some new, bizarre type of frozen or live food to feed my critters. ;)

I understand what your talking about. I've never gone more than once a day, but even recently, I find myself having to resist the temptation to visit the fish store, and I've been fishkeeping for a year and a half!

As long as you're not buying fish every time you visit the fish store, then you're probably ok :)

On a daily or even bi-daily basis I find myself at the fishstore, I have been

with the hobby for about 2months now and I find it fun and relaxing but i wonder if this is normal for new fish lovers.... am I a freak. Does this near obsession go away or taper off.
