These sharks are "designed" to live under aggression with other sharks. As this aggression is gone, the shark thinks it's dominant and tries to re-establish the pecking order on the angels... they will not like it. The long fins are just too tempting for the shark and will harass the angels...

RE: NEW checker barbs just added!

Sounds good, I'll wait for MOA with his opinion on that.....One option I do have is to move my rainbow to my new 44 gallon....but thats going to mainly be a angelfish tank....well a pair of angels at least.....Maybe he can tell me how angels would do with a rainbow shark......I have my thoery on that but I'll wait to see what MOA says.......Thankyou

RE: NEW checker barbs just added!

Being chased does cause stress - a lot of stress. It's something that you can't allow in your tanks because it strains your fish's immune systems and can kill them if it goes on long enough.

So you might have to switch up the dynamics in your tank if it doesn't settle down.

And FattFishy's got your recommendation down - MOA has sharks pretty much covered. Wait and see what he has to say. ;)

RE: NEW checker barbs just added!

It's as if the shark and pictus divided which one to go after. I'm no shark expert, but I do know some info. I'll have to see what MOA, our shark expert, says about this.

RE: NEW checker barbs just added!

FF you asked if the rainbow shark chases the cory? Actually no he doesnt, the rainbow completly ignores the cory and the cat......I did just notice the rainbow started chasing the checker barbs though.....I'm starting to get a little worried, the rainbow is very aggressive to the barbs....not that he could do any major damage, but it might be stressful being chased all the time.....what do you think?

RE: NEW checker barbs just added!

No... I meant: Does your rainbow shark chase away any fish too close to his cave?

RE: NEW checker barbs just added!

I appreciate both your replys, Thankyou for the advice, I think I will add two more corys, Can one be an Albino cory? and You think I should also add another pictus cat as well? I will keep an eye on him and the checkers....Yes the pictus does chase away the cory when he gets to close to his hole....actually the pictus chases the cory anytime he gets close to him.....The cory does seem to be doing ok though, he eats good, is active, I can tell he's getting bigger, he swims to the top for his gulp of air, but I see what you mean, I would get lonely to. Thanks again

RE: NEW checker barbs just added!

I would be careful about putting in the checker barbs with the pictus. I had a pictus who went through an entire school of full grown pearl danios, and possibly even a couple of red velvet swordtails. You may want to get at least 2 more of both catfish IMO, but it is your tank, do what you want.

RE: NEW checker barbs just added!

Your cory is pretty lonely, not as happy as can be, and more stressed than with others. These are shoaling fish and they need shoals to be at tip-top shape. Please add at least 2 more cories.

Does your rainbow shark ward off your cory when it comes too close to its cave/decoration?

NEW checker barbs just added!

Just added 3 checker barbs to my 30 gallon, two males and one female...so far the pictus cat nipped at them a few times but the other tank mates have left them alone....I have a Rainbow shark, 2 tiger barbs, and a cory.....I know, I keep hearing that I should add more tiger barbs that they will turn on the other fish, ITs been 6 weeks, and the tigers leave everyone alone, actually the rainbow shark constantly chases the tigers, and leaves everyone else alone......that could change though.....I also noticed some new behavior by the tigers not 20 minutes after the new tank mates were added, they started bickering with each other, it was funny, at first it looked they were kissing, then I realized it was more like siblings arguing, then the rainbow shark would charge in the middle and break them up chasing them away.....I imagine this is normal for tigers, anyone have any thoughts on this, opinions?
