He's a Tire Track Eel. They are reported to get up to 3 feet long, but he was only about 13 inches in that picture. They are very active, intelligent fish. Unfortunately, I think his curiosity got the better of him, and he must have jumped out of the tank and gotten eaten by one of my other pets, because he disappeared a couple weeks ago and hasn't been seen since.

I think (as I said before) that your tank setup is absoloutely fabulous! How much does a tank like that cost?

Sorry, I've been on a boat for 6 weeks.

Well, I built the stand myself, and the filter is a 55 gallon tank I converted into a sump. All told, not including the fish and plants, I probably spend between $800-900. The tank was $400 pre-drilled, and the rest was the stand, sump, plumbing, lighting, and sand substrate. It cost more than I expected, but it was definitely worth it in my opinion.

Oh yah, I also had to place supports underneath the floor to make sure it would hold the tank, but I already had all that wood.

over time your eel will eat out of your hands. currently i can hand feed mine. watch out though sharp teeth. i think my eel is the best thing in the tank right now. hes funny to watch and he is usually the first one to the surface when the tank lid opens.
