This is an extreme emergency! My bronze cory catfish has trouble staying upright and he has no appetite. He has been lying on his side for a while and I fear my other cory catfish might catch the disease. Also, 1 of my guppies appears to have a whitish fog over her eyes. Like my catfish, I fear for other guppies.  I just performed a 50%, cleaned all decor and plants, and increased aeration in order to hopefully help the fish. Please help me!

To help you out, we really need to know the water parameters -- pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. Without these, we are just guessing. If you don't have test kits, you should be able to take a water sample to your local fish store and get the NUMBERS from them. We need numbers -- not just "it's OK".

Sorry -- but without these numbers we can't be of any help.

Also, tell us how long you've had this tank up and running.

How often do you change the water?  How  much do you remove?

Did you add any medicine to the tank?

How long have you had these fish?

10 gallon tank, 25- 30% water change every week, cory catfish 1 year old, guppy 6 months old, no medication added. Temp 77- 80 F. Tank w/ guppy and catfish for 5 years. I've had and used the tank for 10 years.

Cory catfish died. R.I.P.

Guppy is healed! She was eating this morning and her color was back. No whitish galze over eyes!

Sorry about your catfish... if it was big and robust before the death, there are two things to diagnose: Old age, and MFD (mysterious fish death).

Although I'm glad to hear your guppy is doing fine. Hope you stay at FishChannel!

Even if your fish seem rid of the disease, keep a VERY close eye on them the next few days. Even though the illness seems gone, parasites and bacteria have a way of "Incubating" in your tank. So they may come back after a long while. My advice, is to just wait and watch. It probably won't come back, but it's better safe than sorry.
