I had to move a black angel and a dwarf gourami from my 55 gal semi aggressive community tank to another tank because of fin nipping. They are doing fine in a 10 gal with two odessa barbs. The black angel suffered quit an experience with the dorsal and the tail being nipped pretty bad. The dwarf gourami only suffered minor tail fin nipping.
My question is do the fins grow back?
55 gal. Semi-aggressive freshwater, standard glass with fluorescent lighting. Power filtering systems include Marineland Penguin 350 Bio-wheel and Top Fin 60.
(community) 2-Tiger Barbs, 2-Opaline Gourami, 2-Gold Gourami, 3-Bala Sharks, 2-Rainbow Sharks, 1-Albino Rainbow Sharks, 2-Pictus Cats, 2-Koi Angelfish, 2-Silver Dollar, 2-Blue Paradise Gourami.

(community) 2 Yellow Labs, 2 Acei, 2 Kenyi, 2 Bumblebee, 1 Red Peacock, 1 Jewel, 2 Raphael Catfish, 1 Mosquitofish, 2 Blue Johanni, 1 Auratus.

| Keeping your water quality in top shape will allow it to grow back. What fish were nipping the fins? Please list the tankmates in the 55 gallon. You will have to move the angel back in there but as quickly as possible, let's fix this problem.

A tiger barb did the damage to the Angle. That barb has since been removed from the tank as it was responsible for crippling 4 other fish and turning them into dinner.
The dwarf gourami was victim to the barb, opaline gourami and the leporinuleporinus

| If both gouramis were male, it makes sense. The opaline is a variation of the blue gourami, a pretty violent gourami. You can either stuff the tank with gouramis as to removing any space for territory OR get rid of one of the gouramis. Tiger barbs are always tempted to nip something. Keeping around 8 will make it stop a bit but expect to see some more nipping. The others will keep themselves busy but some are bound to go wandering off and nip long-flowing finned fishes.

I have found the addition of Melafix or similar non - invasive protection therapy- along with the high water quality - does speed up the regrowth process - I am not in the habit of using Indian Tea leaves LOL - for I have found the product not very useful for my needs- but in fin repair and protection I believe it has advantages.

Tiger Barbs and angels dont mix, you will likely find it hard to keep them from nipping, long fins are just too tempting for them, schools help calm them but I think with any long finned fish it will just be too tempting for the tiger barbs.
