New to the forum, been on others and know how helpful and full of information they can be. Had many freshwater tanks and recently made the move and investment to saltwater and loving it so far. Also have a fisheries student for a roommate who currently has a 130 gal with bass, bluegill and crappie, so i might have some pretty funny questions regarding that setup. Thanks for all the help and time in advance.

Ok, so I'm glad I found you here. I've got some fishy ideas floating around in my head and I want to make sure my third go around in this hobby much more successful than than the first two attempts. The first in 1995, the next in 99 and it all died about two years ago.

On Sunday I picked up a copy of FreshWater Marine and Aquarium magazine and found the fishchannel website. I hadn't read a fish mag in about 6 years.

My job, just in case anyone cares? I'm an internet marketing geek with 15 years writing, public relations and online marketing experience. You can view my blog on my profile for more information. I have participated in many other forums regarding work, so I get the rules of the community. I hope to be a part of this one soon.

Hello all!! Well I'm not new to the Fish Channel boards...I poke around here from time to time.

I just wanted to say that I personally think this is one of the best forums on the internet period. I visit a lot of forums around many topics: electronics, video games, auto forums, tech forums (I'm a Network Administrator/Engineer)...and I must say that I've never met such kind, friendly, understanding, and helpful folk on the internet. I get that "back at home" comforting feeling when I read through the forums. The new people and beginner fishkeepers are warmly welcomed and are treated with nothing less than kindness, understanding, and respect. The whole pulse of the forum is much better than most of those on the internet. I know that most of you all who have visited other forums at least once can relate to the fact that most can be very unwelcoming and sometimes a downright hostile and unforgiving environment! Not to mention that they can be full of egotistical and arrogant people, who appear to have had little human contact in their lives. But that being said, I try to steer clear of those kinds of places. I love it here...and sometimes I can ask the most dumbest questions and I'm still understood and treated with respect.

Thank you EVERYONE on Fish Channel!!!

I am new to this forum, although I have posted a few times.

I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. I have kept a variety of fish and had my first marine tank at 13, dont ask me how I managed but they lived and lived near a decade before they died and I left the hobby due to a move out of the US, now I am starting back up after 4 years.

I currently have 29 gallon tank, with zebra danios, neon, glow light tetras, cory cats and headlight/taillight tetras, and just plantned some Java Fern and moss. (I have never kept live plants before now).

I also have a empty 29 thats not being used yet, and I am in the process of setting up a 40 gallon marine tank with live rock and fish, but its a work in progress and several months away before any fish get added.

My favorite fish are Oscars and I'd love to have some, but apartment life and large aquariums dont mix well.

Greetings from las vegas. I've been keeping fish for 6 months. i have three goldfish in a 10g (saving allowance for a bigger tank for them) and 3 whiteclouds in a little tank thing. Also, anyone know any good fish stores in las vegas? i moved here recently snd can't find a decent pet store anywhere.

I am new to the site and also new to having fish. I have a new old 20 gal tank. I started it about a month ago. I just added 2 dalmation mollies, 2 rainbow sharks 1 plecto and one cat fish about 3 days ago. All seems to be doing well! We just had about 20 baby mollies born yesterday. So this is all very exciting to me! I found this site and it has been so much help! I just wish I would have found it about 2 months ago when my 6 yr old started her 2.5 gal tank. And we killed 5 fish because I had no idea about cycling a tank! The Ph was off the charts and the ammonia was also. But there are some very intelligent fish people here!! I just love it!! This is an amazing site!!

Hi! I got so excited about talking to other fish heads that I didn't even bother saying hi, first. I have two 29 gallon planted tanks(all the plants I got from Petco, so I'm not exactly an expert on the planted tank)with 2 paleatus cories, 1 aenus cory, 1 schartzmans cory(I think), 3 neon tetras, 6 Harlequin Rasboras, 4 adult neon swordtails(and various fry), 1 gold Gourami, 3 otocinclus spp., and too many ghost shrimp to find, and count in one tank. The other has 1 Gold Gourami(I had to separate the two I bought), 4 black neon tetras, 6 Starfire red Glofish, 3 otocinclus spp., a few ghost shrimp(transferred from the other 29), 4 adult cherry barbs, barbus titteya, and about 10 cherry barb fry. I've been in the hobby since I was a little boy, and am now coming back into it after a few years, and being on the ignorant end of the saltwater hobby.

Hello all, I've really enjoyed reading all the posts here, and picked up a lot of useful information.

My husband and I have 8 tanks, with another being delivered on Sunday. A quick list...125, 90, 75, 56, 55, 42, and 2 20's, one long and one tall. We have a variety of fish, and the new tank will be heavily planted with a school of baby whales, and really not sure what else (125 gallon). Lucky us, with all the tanks, I have enough cycled water, and used filter pads that I can start that tank immediately.

We appreciate all the info, and hope to be a regular poster!

Hello to everyone at FishChannel. I've been keeping fish since 2001, so I'm new to the forums but not to the hobby. I started with a brave, very forgiving betta and my knowledge and stock grew from there.

I'm looking forward to interacting with other hobbyists; I live in a rural area and it's often difficult to find skilled, experienced fishkeepers to learn from.

My current 29-gallon tank will be dismantled in the coming days as I prepare to move into college, so I'll be looking for advice as to what to stock in my dorm room.

So I thought that I would Love to get some advice from some people who have been doing this for a while. I actually used Fishchannel's suggestions for tanks mates.

So far I have 4 glowlight tetras, 2 hifin platies, and 2 panda corys. Can't wait till I get it fully stocked. 10 glowlights tetras, 6 hifin platies, and 4 panda corys.

Hi! I recently saw an episode of Dog the Bounty Hunter and his wife Beth was concerned about her "dog fish". The fish looks kind of like a dog. It was white with brown spots, big eyes and a snout. It was really cute. I have tried looking for a picture of the fish but when I search for "dog fish" all I find is a shark. That's not it. Does anyone know what kind of fish this was? Maybe she just called it a dog fish because of her husband, Dog. Please let me know if you can help me indentify this fish. Thanks.

I discovered this website thanks to one of my aquarium mags (probably Aquarium USA, but I don't remember:P) and am glad I investigated. I've had a good time going through and seeing everyone else's profiles and tanks.

I own two tanks right now, a 20 gal long planted freshwater, with 2 otocinclus and one lonely glow light tetra, and a 10 gal long FOWLR with an engineer goby and a dwarf zebra hermit.

I started in the hobby while in junior high, and didn't get back into it until 2005. Since then, I've had about 8 different tanks set up at any given time. Due to some relationship changes the past two years, I've down sized considerable in order to be able to move easier.

My planted f.w. looks funny to visitors because all my plants, though flourishing, are in plastic pots. Its substrate is purple (something left over from one of my exes tanks), but it did in a pinch for a temporary setup. The livestock is a lot less than I would normally have, thanks in part to my ex introducing un-quarantined dwarf puffers as a surprise for me last year. Yee haw. Surprisingly, my lone tetra seems to be thriving without his usual school, and the otos are more than happy with things the way they are.

My saltwater tank has been downsized from a 46 gal bow front reef tank to its current nano ten gallon FOWLR. It was a necessary move due to the fact that I don't like setting up and breaking down a large tank every 6 months or so. I've always kept it stocked lightly, so I can change it to a reef tank when I'm finally settled down again. The engineer goby was introduced to take care of my live sand's serious micro crustacean population explosion, but adapted to pellet and flake foods easily, so is plump and obnoxious as ever. My hermit is the only remaining survivor of my first saltwater set up from 3 years ago, and is named the General out of respect for his ability to take all kinds of unintended abuse.

Um... Gee, not a whole lot about me in that, is there? :D

just recently joined wanted to say hello to all members. hopefully i can find some new friends and learn some new things. ive been invloved in fish keeping for about 5 years now. my dad has been keeping fish for 30 yrs or so. currently he has a 200 gallon tank that he has basically let go do to health reasons. it only has a pleco and a couple wall mart gold fish. im in the process of convinng myself to tear the tank completly down and start over. the only problem im having is i have no idea in what direstion that i want to go in. im just looking for some ideas for a tank set up. i know that i dont want to do salt water. dont have a lot of interest in salt water but there are some nice saltwater tank set up out there. the tank dimenions are 4 ft long by sft high by 3 ft wide. im sorta leaning in the direction of a cichlid tank since they are rather hearty fish. i dont get over there much so i want something that looks reall good but really easy to care for.

any ideas or pics to model after would be helpful.

Hello all from New Castle, Delaware. I am a not so new newbie with regards to aquariums. I have had goldfish and tropicals off and on since I was younger. I have to admit other that putting in some aquarium salt and water conditioner I did not do any cycling of the tank. Thanks a lot for all of the information with regards to cycling. I have two tanks, one a 29 gallon that is almost cycled and a 15 gallon that I am still working with. My 29 gallon contains 2 peppered corys, 6 zebra danios, and 3 bloodfin tetras. I plan on adding one more cory and three bloodfins to complete the community. In my 15 gallon I have 2 albino corys and 2 cherry barbs. Once the tank is cycled completely I plan on adding two more barbs and one more cory to complete the community. I just have artificial plants in both and some pvc pipe in the 29 gallon for the corys to accompany the castle as an option for hiding places. I have gravel substrate in both tanks that isn't as fine as sand but I think it will not hurt their barbels when they are searching for food.:)

I have an Empty 40 Gallon tank in my house that I planned on putting to good use by making it into a Fresh Water fish tank. I was planning on getting Guppies, Barbs, and possibly Danio's.
