I really think that the HO linear T5 lamps put out the most light per watt of anything I have ever used. Actually, I'll correct that -- right now I am testing, for my monthly column in FAMA "In The Fishroom" a 36" LED light. It is really cool -- at full output it uses only 75 watts, and you can control the percent output you want from the three colors -- red, blue and green. I have it on a 50 gallon planted tank, and in just a week or two all of the new leaves of the different Amazon swords are coming in red, and the red ludwigia and rotala are fiery red.

Here's a recent pic of the 120 with the jurupari and farlowellas.

RE: Ecobio-block

Wow that's low lighting...

This topic sure has gone off track. :P

RE: Ecobio-block

I just submitted an article for Aquarium Fish International that Patricia asked me to write on "Impossible Planted Tanks." One of them is a 120 gallon tank that has a school of 12 adult jurupari and my F1 royal farlowellas. The plants are doing great, and the only light is a standard T5 ceiling troffer with 2 -- 54 watt lamps. Go figure.

RE: Ecobio-block

What about low-light tanks with NOTHING. Just the light it came with or upgraded to 1 wpg?

You could show a tank like that. Java Fern... Moss carpets... Moss walls... It'll be great for first time plantkeepers!

RE: Ecobio-block

Great ideas! Thanks to all of you. I talked with one of my editors at FAMA, and the wheels of progress have begun rolling.

How about one article on "Dueling Technologies for Planted Tanks" Hi vs. lo tech?

Thanks again -- keep the ideas coming.

RE: Ecobio-block

I agree that doing both is a great idea. Wonderful suggestion.

I just want to see ALL of the possibilities!!! High goals usually equal high achievement. If there is a will there is a way, etc. But it is true.

RE: Ecobio-block

Plant choice! I have to admit that I am a freshwater snob. If I deem that the mag has a majority of salt water articles, I usually pass.

But the Mag over all is great! I would love to see an in depth article on high tech plant tanks! If I may make a suggestion.

RE: Ecobio-block

Glad you liked the review of the Eco BioBlock in FAMA.

I was so pleased with what it did that I have bought a bunch of them to use in the tanks in my wholesale fishroom. Since my tanks are 30 and 40 gallon breeder tanks, I have taken one of the larger Eco BioBlocks and I break it in half, and put half into one tank. I've also got some tanks where all I have are the "pebbles" from breaking up bigger blocks.

BTW -- why don't you get a subscription to FAMA?

RE: Ecobio-block

Was the review good?

That magazine is next to impossible to find here, so I rarely get to read it.

Ecobio-block

I just read the article reviewing Ecobio-block by our very own David Lass. It is so cool to associate with a star! Good article by the way David.

I also think it is great that a regular contributor to a magazine related to our interest takes the time to read, interject, and respond to his potential subscribers comments and questions.

One question. Can the block be broken into smaller pieces in order to hide it?
