Even if they are little feeder fish who are probably going to get eaten, anyway. Our petstore doesn't take the little bodies out. They just leave them in there 'till the other fish eat the other fish down to it's tiny little skeleton. That's really sad, and it also shows they don't really care. I don't like that.

RE: Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

I would be really anger at the person who dropped my fish. Thankfully, I have an older brother living with me who is a fish expert. He wouldn't harm anybody. Sorry about that pufferrocks. Oh and I too wouldn't buy fish out of a tank that has a dead one. You never know.

RE: Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

I always report the casualties to the employees as soon as I see a dead fish not that most dont just shrug it off and say it must have just happened....only to shop for quite awhile to go back and its still in the tank grrrrrrr. of course some will die esp with the conditions of these tanks as they are just temp til a home is found but can they not at least keep on top of removing the poor things? Another reason for me anyway its bad business Im sorry but Im NOT buying any fish out of a tank that has dead ones in it being that you have no clue what they died from .....then you run the risk of infecting your own tanks! So to sum it up yes i think its very sad

RE: Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

Yeah its really sad to see fish dead in the store. its even worse when you look in the tank and see them dying... you can't help but feel really sorry for them...

RE: Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

Once a long time ago when my little brother was 3 or 4 he scooped one of our guppies out of the tank and dropped it on the floor. He went and said something about a fish to our dad but he didn't think anything of it. Around 30 min later my other little brother was walking by the tank and stepped on something wet. Looking down he saw the poor guppy! We all thought it was dead but it moved so we put it back in the tank where it swam off. That guppy lived for another year!:w00t:

Fish are amazing!!

RE: Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

[quote]Bubbleboy (8/31/2008)
Well Bettas Jumping out of bowls is pretty common.

Once my mom and dad had a betta (When I was little) and they had it for a real long time. It just causes more trouble than preventing it.

dar, just so you know, lfs means local fish store. Yeah, I had to ask about it too.

RE: Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

Too true, Dizzy Kitty. Ok, LFS stands for live fish store? He was very active and would even follow me around watching me work in the kitchen. Had him 6 mo. and one day I fed him before going outside. About 30 min. later I came in and he was gone out of his large bowl. Took me 15 min. to find him in my plants nearby. Poor guy got so happy I guess he jumped out. I later read that sometimes they do that so it's best to cover bowl with cheesecloth. I almost cried, wished I'd been nearby when he got frisky. Couldn't bring myself to replace him for almost half a year.

RE: Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

Wow, that's a lot of loss in shipping.

RE: Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

it is sad to see fishies dead in a any tank wheather its in a home tank or store tank...;_; it is normal for some if not halof a shipment to die dew to the shock of transporting them from place to place or improper shipping conditions...like what ladybarbara001 said, the fish were probably overheated in the delivery truck and/or plane!
i work at a petshop and have so for almost 2 years now and it still isnt easy to see dead fish floating in our tanks!! we try to remove them as much as possible but it dosent always happen that way.

RE: Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

Slightly old topic, but...took my 14year old stepdaughter to a LFS, and they had just received fish. I guess the shipment overheated, and a bunch of fish were dead and dying. She was just freaking, and it took quite a while to calm her down. I told her there was nothing anyone could do, and that it was very sad, but that occasionally happens during shipping. I guess the moral of this story is don't show up on shipping days...especially not with a sensitive kid.

Is it sad to see a dead fish in a fish supply store?

I have seen many fish dead and sometimes they are my favorite.
