Just fish the "body" out of the tank with a net. You should be able to tell if it is a shrimp shell, meaning it molted, or a dead shrimp. I'll bet it just molted, because dead shrimp do turn a pinkish red.

Yes, they turn pink when they die but... ever thought of it this way? Ghost shrimp shed their shells correct? But their shells looks SO very much the real thing it's hard to tell if it's the shrimp or the shell. Also take note that shrimp are very good hiders so that the shell is grown back for protection.

Wait a few days before assuming it died. Try actually looking at the shell to see if there is a hole where the swimerrets (little legs that it uses to swim) are. If so, it most likely shed its shell. Don't worry, it happened to me to, I thought it died... but after I came back home, there it was; laughing.... (not literally, it seemed like a mischievious shrimp.)

If you're really cautious, test the water for copper. High amounts of copper can kill invertebrates but I don't know how high to be lethal to them.

Hopefully it's not dead.... but it's still possible that it died and the betta ate it too quickly for you to see, so the shell is only left.

My shrimp is sitting under the plants lying on his back. He has turned a milky white, not his usual transparent color. My betta is ignoring him, but is he dead or is he just shedding? I think they turn pink when the die but he is white so is he just molting? HELP!
