I plan on giving a pair away (if one forms) to a local breeder so that he can try his luck at breeding them. I have never been able to succesfully breed any fish yet so I thought it would be wise to have someone who is good at it try. Hopefully he can breed them and help spread them around so that less are taken from the wild.

I will post pics once I have them.

RE: Gymnogeophagus Sp. I think filipem meant he was talking about the fish of the topic here and how much they cost.

RE: Gymnogeophagus Sp. They should not be more than a couple of bucks each. Perhaps the ones you are looking at are the red crystal shrimps, which come in all kinds of "grades" depending on coloration, some of which can be $50 -- $100. Not that I would ever pay that kind of money for a shrimp unless it was solid gold.

RE: Gymnogeophagus Sp. I wouldn't mix them with other fish as I don't know how the would interact with them. I am reluctant to buy them until I learn a little more about them though. They are not commonly available. If I buy them they have to be air shipped overnight to me and I have to buy a minimum of ten @ $15.00 ea.

RE: Gymnogeophagus Sp. Norte

Yeah, I got it from the attached link and before that I researched it on my own. It sure is pretty...everything I saw in Gymnogeophagus was pretty. Very nice and bright; I hope the color and shine doesn't diminish as they age. How big do they get again? I'll have to reread your post...
Well, they aren't exactly common in the hobby, that's for sure. If you want to try, I'd set them up in a large species tank. Maybe you could even get them to breed. :)
Oh, nice, 3.5 inches. I'd be prepared for them to get bigger; sometimes info in rare fish like that can be scant and anecdotal. Give 'em a shot if you want, I'm sure it'd be a gorgeous setup. And don't forget to give us pics! :>

RE: Gymnogeophagus Sp.
