Are you talking about questions that you didn't post but answers were here? Or did we actually answer them directly?

Also, neons are small correct? Then "jumbo neons" or "jumbo shrimp" is one heck of an oxymoron.

RE: Neon tetras...

FattFishy and Nikita, you've answered all of my questions. You're fish Geniuses!!!:w00t:

RE: Neon tetras...

I added 4 more Neons. Now it's one crowded tank... but it doesn't look like it.

6 Neons

3 Panda Cories

1 Honey Gourami

1 Ghost Shrimp (I'll move it; it's very small and hard to catch... hides in the moss)

5 Red Cherry Shrimp

Plants: LOTS OF HORNWORT :) 3 Amazon Swords... Brown Diatom Algae... Green Beard Algae (was on decoration that was moved)

The 4 new neons are medium sized compared to the 2 "jumbo" sized that grew before... They are much less stressed, and not as shy... before, when I had only two, the two would swim fast whenever I walked in front of the tank. Now, only an hour after, the neons didn't swim much... just an inch and stopped. I didn't know how neon they really were; in the sunlight when I brought it home, it glared in my eyes.

Now I have a fully stocked tank! Nothing to change.

RE: Neon tetras...

I forgot about the pics... I'll upload it tomorrow; the lighting doesn't look too good.

The hornwort in my tank has somewhat distanced leaves but are fine, long, thin, green, and firm.

The one up on the top was upside-down. I want to see them "own" the place like your ghosties.

Side note: Ghost and RCS are compatible but, the ghosties will eat the newborn RCS if not given enough hiding places.

RE: Neon tetras...

I can just imagine the looks on their faces. ;)

Hornwort always grew well in my tanks, but tended to get more...compact, I guess. Shortened leaves and distances in between stems. I don't know what exactly makes it do that; some difference in my water, but I never researched exactly what.

I'm looking forward to pictures of the setup. :)

RE: Neon tetras...

ahaha thanks. I saw one cherry shrimp eating some tiny algae on the hornwort. My water has a pH of 7.6, DH 12, and 2.8 wpg.... I use a DIY CO2 system and fertilizer. I won't be worried about it; it could live without any of these (besides the light).

I'm such a bargain hunter... I happened to have store credit and it had a 50% sale on all livestock (besides feederfish). It's originally $2 but that's still pretty cheap. What do you want me to ship it to you? But my parents would probably look at me and scold me :P

RE: Neon tetras...

you got

red cherry shrimp

oh you're so lucky ;;

*sniffle*

And the "female shopping bargain hunter" in me is going just nuts over you getting such a good deal on 'em! The aquarium store that will stock 'em when I get settled into college takes $4.50 for them. Partially because they're red cherry shrimp, and partially becaue shipping anything up there is a pain. See, there's a reason why college kids are stereotyped as always being poor! We're always spending our money on something...in my case, shrimp. >_>

And congrats on the hornwort. Just keep an eye on it, because if it doesn't like your water it will drop its leaves in protest and make a humongous mess. If you have an earthy substrate like mine, it's no problem, but it can look grubby on gravel. Any shedding should quit once the plant gets established.

Enjoy your new acquisitions! I'm jealous. :)

RE: Neon tetras...

I didn't get the neons yet...
Guess what Nikita? I GOT RED CHERRY SHRIMP!!! I have a bit of java moss, some cotton or the like as a moss imitation and moved the ghost shrimp to the 28 gallon to prevent any consuming of juvenile newborn shrimp. These guys will not breed like rabbits, rather just be easy to breed. One of them is pregnant already. I got them for $1 each... SO CHEAP!!
Oh yeah, and MOA's favorite silent cycler, Hornwort. I've been talking about it a lot and recommending it but now I actually have it!

RE: Neon tetras...

Hmm...

If you err on the side of caution I'd say just go with the neons and the cories. But I trust MOA's spreadsheet, and I know you'll be diligent enough to care for them.

Just eyeball that gourami to make sure that he's not scaring the tetras just by his sheer size in comparison to them.

Neon tetras...

The topic "Only two Neon Tetras" seems to have been the hot topic and is refered to frequently. That was my sister's neon tetras and now I want my Honey Gourami feel more secure so... I'm going to move them into my 10 gallon tank. Not only will the Honey Gourami benefit, the neons can actually get some food without being out-competed.
Can I keep a school of 6 neons, 1 Honey Gourami, and 3 pandas in a 10 gallon? Will any problems like food stealing or aggression arise by adding the neons?

MOA's spreadsheet filtration potential has 80% left with my cleaning schedule and plants... it also recommended 7 gallons because of space leftover.
