:w00t:Hey everyone! My names Adam! I am 14 and have been keeping fish for a couple years now and I am lovin it! I L.O.V.E. angelfish and I also like discus and oscars, though i've never kept either.so sad! I have a 29 gallon tank right now andam planning on getting more if and when my parents let me. In my tank I have a blue gourami(?), a flying fox, 4 glowlight tetras(?),and 4 black skirt tetras. I'm not quite sure what kind the gourami and first tetras are. I also have japanese amano shrimp.

Hello! I am new to the website. I currently have a three gallon with a male betta, a 10 gallon with some fancy guppies, pleco, and two danios. I also have a 29 gallon bowfront with more guppies, some mollies, three female bettas, and a small bala shark. Then I have my favorite tank, a 55gallon African cichlid tank. I have 10 Lake Malawi Cichlids and 2 plecos. I currently have a cichlid who is mouth brooding, so I have a tank divider in so no one bothers her. First time with cichlid babies so any advice is appreciated! Thanks! Heather

Just a little background:

I got my first tank (a 20g) almost two years ago and didn't know anything about fish. So of course I skipped the whole cycling process and got a betta and some other fish. Luckily, I found a forum where I solved all my problems and now I'd addicted!

I developed MTS after my swordtails had fry. I ended up raising swordtails and cories successfully. After expanding my hobby to three tanks (20g, 5g, and 6.6g), I decided to upgrade.

I now have a 55g and the 6.6g which houses the occupants listed in my signature.

So now I'm just checking around other forums to see if I can use my knowledge and experience to help others. I wrote an "easy to follow" article on breeding peppered cories with pictures to follow the process, so if anyone has questions or needs help, feel free to contact me.

There, that's my introduction, and I hope I can contribute to this forum! :)

Hello everyone, I'm a new member. I've been keeping fish since I was 5 years old and have been "hooked" ever since. I've kept community tanks, raised discus, angels and other cichlids and have had up to 10 aquariums at once ranging from 10 to 60 gallons. I've also kept saltwater fish but don't hae any salt now.

Currently I have four tanks up and running. Two tens, one with a pair of Honduran Red Points (I still loooove my cichlids) and one with a female HRP and several platies of my own breeding. I have a twenty gallon long sort of Central American biotope tank, heavily planted with two Kleiner Bar swords, tons of aquatic ferns that are mounted on a bunch of 2 and 3 inch flower pots, glued together to form a series of caves and covered with black shale. The fish are a pair of Mollenesia latipinna, a male HRP (the mate to the one in the 2nd ten), five "orange laser" corydoras, a trio of Xiphorus guntheri, several otocinclus and a lone yellow morph pseudotropheus species (don't ask, she was a gift and fit in better there). My newest project is a 35 gallon Asian/African freshwater community tank. I say Asian/African because about 50% of the plants are anubias and fern species from Africa and about 50% are cryptocoryne and nymphaea species from Asia. Eventually all the fish will be Asian barbs, rasboras and loaches. Right now the fish population consists of a bunch of nice molly babies from my pair, most of which will be traded for the new occupants. I have started the Asian fish with four glass cats, three yoyo loaches, two bamboo shrimp and a weather loach (brown dojo). I will add odessa barbs, checkerboard barbs, standard rasboras, Bororas maculatus, butterfly barbs and a few others, including another bamboo shrimp, some cherry shrimp, etc. That should make up a nice group of small to medium cyprinids with some cool inverts.

My name is Debbie and I am a owner of a 30 gallon.

My dad had a 30 gallon freshwater for years. After we moved into our house, he started letting go of the tank. It started turning a green color I've never seen. It was terrible. One night he came home from work in a bad mood, dragged me out of my room to help him break down his tank. He emptyed the water to find 5 of 6 goldfish dead at the bottom.

He then threw out the WHOLE tank (it was bad and would have taken a lot of work to get it back to normal), including the gold fish. I cryed (I am 21, lol) saying that it was bad to throw out a fish in the GARBAGE can outside. He basicly told me to get over it. When he went back upstaires, I grabbed a towel and went outside (with no shoes), dug threw the can and found the (huge) goldfish.

I went into my room with this fish in my mom's towel and out him into her spaghetti pot. I called my friend Joe who has a 30 gallon saltwater for help. I drove out to his house at 3:30 in the the morning to get a 10 gallon, some of his water, gravel, food, etc.

This was the start to my tank expierence.

The goldfish went through hell with me, lmao. I was not expierenced and liked to play around with the tank. I burnt him in 98 degree water. I brought him back. He was blinded for a while, but he survived. I then started getting other fish.

This past April when I got my tax check, I went out and bought a 30 gallon setup. I bought more fish. A few months ago, I let me goldfish go into a friend's sister's pond at her job where he now lives with koi and other huge fish. He's doing good.

Now I have about 20-something fish in my tank and everyone is good. I've lost some good fish over the past few months to ich. I've had babies born (and eaten). But other than that, I love having a tank and learning how to take care of a eco system.

I just joined here. I had an account, but I forgot my username but then I found I it again. I am good friends with FastFoward5k. He actually had my tanks in his signature so he could easily ask questions without people asking why he didn't have it in his sig. But now I joined so I had to take it out. So now I have mine and my dad's tanks in my signature. I am breeding Balloon Mollies now and all my fish are doing good. I have a 29 gallon and my dad has a 46 gallon. Plus, I have all my breeding tanks.

Hi everyone. New to the site. I had kept fish for probably 5-10 years, beginning in college. I always enjoyed it and always found it interesting, challenging and exciting. I closed everything down when my wife and I bought a fixer upper home and didn't have much room.

My 9 y/o son recently asked for a fish tank in his room. It's been about 10 years since I had a tank. It didn't take much arm twisting and we started up a 14 gallon hex about 4 weeks ago. So far, so good. He has a couple mollies a few small barbs a gourami and 2 small cory cats. I know it's a little crowded, but it was hard to say no to "i want some of those and some of those, ooo and them...." :)

I'm getting the itch to start up a larger tank myself...where ever I can find some room. I'm hopeful after christmas I can gather some money together and see what i can put together.

Also in our house is a 2 year old red eared slider turtle. He was the size of a half dollar when we bought him at a carnival. Now, I can barely get one hand around him to pick him up. He's in a 30 gallon now. I may have to buy the bigger tank for him and use the 30 gallon for my fish (after careful disinfecting, of course).

Anyway, glad to be here. I'll try to get some pictures up soon.

Tretocephalus, N. Sexfasciatus, and a few rougue juvie N. Brichardi, a 60 gallon " Geophagus " Brasiliensis tank, and a 40 gallon N. Brichardi Breeding colony. Nice to meet everyone.

Hi. I gues this post might seem a little weird. If anyone remembers Hailey's story that was posted around october, I'm sure you'll feel as bad for her as I do. lately, ive been thinking about how much she helped me and how many bad or stupid decisions she kept me from making. I was thinking about emailing her, just telling her that everyone misses her, but then i thought that that would be a little over the edge....... I just wish she would come back. But i guess her friends death must have hit her really hard.

;) Hello I am new to this site. I became interested in fish when I was 11 years old. My first pet fish was a .25 cent goldfish from Walmart. I had that fish for 2 years. I kept it in a 1 gallon tank. Now I just own a 10 gallon tank. In it i keep 1 mollie, 2 spanish dancer guppies. One of my guppies is pregnant. I am trying to learn more before I move on to more complicated fish. I really don't have anyone to talk to about fish, many people think it is a boring subject. Thats why I'm here. I hope i make many friends.

Well, I'm not new to the site (joined 5/15/07) but I never introduced myself. Haven't been on much cuz the site used to be really slow (pages took forever to load), but I've been creeping back in lately.

I've had tanks since I was about 8 years old (except for some of the time I was in the Army) and have loved keeping fish. I worked in a pet store in NYC and learned a lot of dos and don'ts that way. I've been big on cichlids for the past 2.5 years or so and love my current set up. Fortunately my wife tolerates my obsession and has let me set up a small breeding operation so I can grow some of these guys out. You probably noticed I have MTS...like most other fishkeepers! :D

I love this hobby and love meeting other fishkeepers to share knowledge and pictures with. I'm not an expert, but I've learned a lot and am always learning more and willing to try different things in the name of getting one more tank in the house. lol

Also how do you get a pic with your name? I have some pics of my daddy betta guarding his nest and of the mom I would like to post but they are so big you can't see it correctly. I recently joined this forum and just wanted to introduce myself to all you FishChannel members. Here are some things about myself...

I've kept fish in the past but got out of the fish keeping hobby several years ago...and I want to jump back into it again.

As my username suggests, I am a Cadet in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets military program.

I have many reptilian "pets" (sorry that word doesn't really fit them right) and am/was a part of the ReptileChannel forums but I don't really go on much anymore.

I am new to this forum, I just want to sey hello and tell a little bit about how I got into this hobby. My first fish tank, was when I was 5. Actually a bowl (used for a betta named bubbles). Then when I was 10 I got my first real aquarium (10 gallon-guppies). Then when i was 16 I got a 16 gallon bowfront (gourami), then when I was 18, got my 55 gallon aquarium(houses demasoni cichlids)-I still have that tank, and for Christmas this year I will be getting a 26 gallon bowfront (havent decided what I want to put in there) I have to downsize a little, beacuse of college, and money. I look forward to hearing from my fellow FishChannel members.

I just thought I'd stop by and say hello to everyone (and explain myself a bit). I'm really sorry I dropped off the face of the planet like that...I have had a very rough couple of months. My best friend suddenly passed away, and it hit me hard. She was only 26 years old, and her wedding (to one of my other closest friends) was only a month away when it happened. She had a blood clot that formed, it went undiagnosed despite the fact that she went to the emergency room because her leg was swelling up, and it went to her heart and caused a pulmonary embolism. Her fiance and I walked into her apartment and found her within 1/2 hour of it happening, but it was too late. You just never think you're going to find yourself performing CPR on your best friend, and even worse, that it will do no good.

So that's my story. I just couldn't bring myself to go back to my normal life, including hanging out here. I am having trouble even showing an interest in my own fish at this point and I am beginning to debate getting out of the hobby altogether. I am holding off on any decisions until I am thinking more clearly though. I am hoping my love of the hobby (of anything really) will come back, but so far it hasn't. I'm just taking care of my fish the best I can for now and sometime down the line I will decide what to do about them. I may just pare down the tanks a bit to make them easier to maintain, or combine several of the freshwater tanks into one.

Anyway, sorry I left you guys hanging like that. I just wanted you to know what is going on, and that I will probably not be on regularly for a while at least. I really hope I will be back sometime, but I don't know when I will start to feel like myself again. Til then, take care everyone. Life is too short...

I remember the good ol days when I grew up with freshwater aquariums, starting with gouramis, tiger barbs, livebearers, catfish, and snakeheads. Yes, snakeheads are common and very easily obtained here in Malaysia. :)

It's great to be here among knowledgeable enthusiasts who share and care for this great hobby! I hope to pick up, learn, and share much more along the way.

my name is Bobbi and I am a student living in BC, I have been workiing in a pet shop for a few years and and love animals:D

I have a few tanks and generally know the general fish basics, but am deffinitely still learning as I have just relativley recently started the fish keeping hobby myself. And also I have come to learn that everything you are told in a pet store should sometimes be taken with a grain of salt!

I have a ten gallon, fully planted tank for my calico, telescope goldfish, a 33 gallon, planted tank with 3 cory cats, 15 cardinal tetras and 6 marbled hatchet fish, this tank has been set up for about 2 years now.
I also have a 29 gallon, planted tank with 10 dwarf autralian rainbows, 6 rosy barbs, and 3 cory cats.

Out of all the fish, my single goldfish is the newest, and the first time I have owned a goldfish.

Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself! Can't wait to learn more from everyone:)

I'm new here and need a lot of help. Got two tanks, one has brand new filter, the other was given to us and the water isn't looking to swell. I've changed it, tested and treated it per lfs and ready to yank my hair out! Now it's got small foreign bodies floating in the water. they are large and can not fit up the filter intake pipe. I have no idea what is living in there and it smells
bad!! The fish seem like they are enjoying themselves though. Please help me!!!

I just joined the site a few hours ago. I've been going threw a few posts trying to get my bearings. I have read quite a few topics that were very helpful and will probably re-read in the future. I have a 10 gallon tank I plan to set up ((my sister gave it to me after I bought her a 40 gallon for her koi's)) Right now I am mostly doing as much research as possible before I go into buy materials. I already know I want some plants of some sort but Im very new to them so I wouldnt know where to begin. I like aquascapes that are mostly low ground covering plants with good decent size rocks or sticks.. But at the same time I like the tall to medium size "jungle" type tanks too...So, I figured if I finally decided on the right fish I wanted, I could determine the best aquascape for them.

So I guess I'll just list the fish I would like to have ((I know I cant have all right now or all together) but I would like your advice on paring them. Because Im not sure on their minimual school size or their adult size vs how many in tank with plants (depending on plant density)...
