Video of my 3 Eels Dancing

Dont mind the hornwort bits floating around after I saw them dancing around having so much fun I took it all out of the tank to get a better view and tried to get the bits out with the net.............anyway as you can see they are all getting along just great and bandit is fitting right in with the others :D . I cant wait to get them into the 125 they will think they are in the ocean lol

I picked up a male reticulated stingray today! Best part, he was cheaper than the female:D

He's pretty darn skinny, but so was she when I got her. He started chomping on some live blackworms I threw in while he's acclimating, so I shouldn't have any trouble getting him to eat, fortunately.

New members........I have 2 new clown loaches and 1 peacock eel................clowns are in the nursery tank with the new plants and eel is in the qt tank......Im picking up my 2 baby whales today! :D I know the clowns and whales have to be in groups but thats all they have at the moment they are on order at mom n pop store.

clowns what I could get they were camera shy

and now my new plants....there are more (2 amazon swords and 2 long something elses lol) but i have them in a bucket for now.

sorry my camera skills are less than desirable but still wanted to share with you!!

New fish (are you surprised?)

I was at a store I haven't been to in a while (like a couple years, i think), and while they pretty much had your regular everyday fish, they also had something that I've been hoping would show up in town for a while. It was labeled Butterfly Goby, but is also know by several other names, such as Dusky Panther Goby, Leaf Goblinfish, or Butterfly Waspfish. The scientific name is Neovespicula depressifrons. These are listed as fw/bw/sw fish, which means that in nature they will live in any or all of these environments, moving through them as they will. I am currently going to put him in my 10g tank, but will probably set up a larger tank in the future (I've got a 30g sitting empty right now). I may eventually try increasing the salinity to brackish water (once he's in a tank by himself), but maybe only if he doesn't seem to be flourishing in regular freshwater.

Oh yah, did I mention its venomous? I guess I've become addicted to fish that can really hurt me recently as well. He shouldn't get very large (4" max, apparently), and supposedly isn't especially active, being an ambush predator, but he's swimming so actively in the acclimation tank that I can't get very good pics of him. Here goes anyways:

It's about time I start adding new pics. There are now: two new balloon mollies, Dusty and Calico. Sadly, Tangerine has passed away, due to either stress, disease, or some other cause... no other fish affected. Aponogeton Bulbs! I'm hoping they'll magically turn into a huge plant!

Time for pics:

This is Bulb #1. I've just planted it, so no signs of sprouting. It is in the 28 gallon, on the left side in front of the Anubias barteri.

Bulb #2. Also in the 28 gallon but farther right, in front of the coliseum.

Bulb #3. Now this is in the 10 gallon, in the middle in front of the Pygmy Chain Swords and right of the Java Moss.

Bulb #4. Farther right in the 10 gallon and left of the clay pot.

GROUP PICS!

My new Wisteria! It was found in the PetSmart's plastic thingies and still has its emersed form. Very nice and I can't wait until it looks like Conner's!

For some reason, my Pandas dance... They just dance like no tomorrow. Everyday at night and dusk, their dancing ceremony is performed. Even when I turn on the room light.

Thankfully, they regrew their whiskers and I'm just glad to see that. I thought my gravel was a bit rough but heck no! they grew the barbels back.

As a side note, I had a taste of Red Cherry Shrimp claws... man do they pinch!

New Fishies!!

Hey peoples! Went to Big Al's yesterday and got some new fish!! So excited!:D I got 4 more black skirt tetras, another flying fox, and, my favorite... a bushy nose pleco! My pleco is so cute! And he does an amazing job of getting all the algae! My new flying fox is always hangin around with my old one, Poppy. It's like Poppy's teaching him how to be a fish! It's so funny. I'm also trying to think of names for my new flying fox and pleco. Any suggestions are welcome!

Odd plant growing in my 10g. I think these were left over leaves from the baby tears, but they aren't connected to any stems, and they seem to multiply every time I look at them. they are slowly spreading to cover the surface. They're also smaller than the baby tears in my 125g tank:

This isnt the best as he kept getting scared because my nephew was standing there beside me but you get the ides lol its the only way I can get the piggy to eat the other one hides for the most part at dinner time. Enjoy!!

Gourami getting in the mood...

My thick-lipped gourami has been practicing building bubble nests over the last 2 weeks, but they've always been fairly small, thin, and break apart over about 24 hours. Here's the one he built today while I was at work:

It's about 3 inches by 4 inches, and about an inch thick from top to bottom! I also noticed that the female is looking even fatter than usual, so I'm thinking that maybe they're getting ready to try to spawn! I hope this is so, it would be really cool to see them laying eggs in the bubble nest.

Yes, there are some fake plants, but hard to see now.

I tried to get some fish in the pics, but the little guys/gals move too fast.

I decided to use egg crate as the top (as I do on my SW) so I could add more light, right now I have 46 watts with CFL's and 17 watts with a single T12 bulb. Once I get paid I am going to attempt to find another incandescent fixture (hard to find these days) and replace the 17 watt with 2 more 23 watt CFL's.

Now here is the Salt side of the apartment.

Peppermint Shrimp if you look close. They are nocturnal and shy.

My urchin decided to take on a shell for camouflage, the hermit crabs appreciate it, as he was using them for it.

These 4 pics are the same only with different camera settings. Also notice the movement of the German Blue ram from picture to picture.

New Peacock Eels!

One of my LFS' finally had some peacock eels, and they were beasts! I've never seen them in the store larger than about 3, maybe 4 inches, but these two that I picked up are already about 6" or more in length (they're hard to measure).

So, i finally have pics of my sw tank. But there's a catch! They're all really big and a bit blurry. Now, in the pic with the zoas, what kind of clam is that behind them? It came in with the live rock and has been living for a year.

Here is a pic of my clown and coral beauty. The angel is a little beat up in this old pic from when i first got him.

Here is a pic of my zoas and a clam that came with them when i got them almost a year ago. but i don't know what kind of clam it is.

This is a pic of my banded coral shrimp that is also almost a year old.

This is a pic of my new emerald crab. he has about a 1.5" leg span.

Here's a pic of my new bright green rhodactis shrooms! Gosh, they look a lot whiter in the pic than they really are. They almost look like they're reaching up, trying to get more light. is this the case?

Now for a pic of my new red rhodactic shrooms. These seem a lot more content than the green ones. i hope the all stay happy and healthy.

And here's a pic of my new purple and green ricordea shrooms! There are 3 fused together, and they seem extremely happy. they all opeed up quickly. i put them up high since they need a lot of light. they're like 3" from the water surface.

Finally, here is a pic of them from above the tank. i had to put my hand over the tank so the light wouldnt reflect too much. I think they look great from this angle.

In my tank I have 16 platies. 12 are red platies. The rest are assorted. I have always wanted to have fishy babies. To study how they grow up. I had a batch a couple months ago. But they all died, because the fish ate them. But now, i'm going to move the babies to a quarenrtine tank for safety. If you have any luck with baby platies or know something. Please email my profile to help me keep them alive. Any information would be helpful. THanks.

Here's a couple of pics of the plants in the 125g tank. The wisteria has reached up several inches more out of the water than it was on monday, when I added the canopy!

I was picking up some more live blackworms today, and the lfs had the cutest little black ghost. I ended up buying it. I spent about 4 hours acclimating, and then put it in the 125g tank. It promptly disappeared, and now I don't know where its hiding, although I have a pretty good idea.

I picked up an urchin today, its a pincushion but I am not 100% sure of the exact species since my local store isn't well versed on salt water creatures, but sell them. (if that makes any sense)

I stopped by one of my lfs' after work to pick up some live blackworms for my fish, and in their oddball tank they have a little (3-4" diameter disk) reticulated/teacup stingray!

I talked to the owner, and I'm seriously thinking about purchasing this awesome little fish. It would go into my 125g (after quarantine in 30g tank), which would need a slight makeover as far as plants/rocks and possibly fish. If I do, this tank would probably become centered around the ray, with more open sand bottom for him and mostly floating plants.

I know that they can get up to 12" in diameter, prefer pH between 6 and 7, and temps between 78 and 82F, which match my tank perfectly. I've heard they can be difficult eaters at first, but the ray at the store was munching down on live blackworms as I watched, so I don't think that should be a problem. It's not big enough to be dangerous to any of my fish yet, and I could move fish to other tanks or re-home them as necessary to make this work.

What are you guys opinions about this? I've wanted a freshwater ray for as long as I've been keeping fish, and now I've got a chance to get one locally for not too expensive.

Here are a few new pics from my 125. There are 2 new fish in there (since the stingray). A friend of mine is changing his tropical tank back over to a goldfish tank, and gave me an angelfish and a congo tetra. They have been in the tank since sunday, and are both doing very well. I'm still debating about whether to take the congo tetra to the store for credit, or to go ahead and pick up 4-5 more to make a proper school for him.

From goldfish to tropicals

This is my 29gal bio-cube, on the lower left is a ghost tube, behind the Java moss is a piece of mopani wood with 3 hiding places. Behind the rock is small hide, in the right back another hide behind mopani wood and a second ghost tube, behind plant in lower left.

Since adding all the other plants and fish my black ghost is more active. The tiger barbs have created a maze in the Java moss and use it as a race course.

Now to learn to maintain my little piece of Heaven.

Nikita the Ghost has 6 hiding spaces, since this is a week old, I think in a month they all are going to be relaxed. Some already seem to know me.

I just saw that the Gourami has his reading lamp on in the middle left back. Must be more settled than I thought.

Here are a few pics from my 3 planted tanks. These include some of the new plants I've bought. They showed up while I was out of town friday morning, and sat on the front porch at 32 degrees for about 12 hours. They seem to be doing alright though.

You can see the two marimo balls (just barely) in this pic, as well as one of the anubias nana narrow leaf plants. One of the two anubia's had a smaller plant that split off as I was de-potting them, and so I planted it separately. The anubias look pretty good. The crypt wendtii don't really look anything like I was expecting, or like my other two crytps in the tank. They have very long stems, with rounded greenish red leaves at the ends, whereas my previous two plants have shorter stems with long, narrow, wavy edged leaves in either solid green or nearly solid red. The crypts also don't look nearly as good as the anubias did. The marimo balls look pretty good. I'm not sure which tank I want to put them in yet. They're in the 10g right now, but I think I might move one or both of them to the 125g tank, just to see how they look. I put most of the java moss in the 20L, and semi-attached it to the piece of driftwood in there. I also placed one of the anubias nana's in the 20L. It looks much better, and much more natural in there too. The gourami's really seem to like the moss.
