Hi all, I've been breeding tropical fish for about 20 years, and I've been wanting to start a brackish water tank. I've been wanting to breed Sailfin Mollies for a while now. But anyway, my question is: the use of a protein skimmer is mostly for salt water tanks, but since brackish water is adding salt to the tank. Would a protein skimmer be useful ? Any ideas ?

Thanks

Robert T

I don't know this for sure, but I have read that they won't work at such a low salinity. Take that for what it's worth since it's secondhand information.

The use of a Protein Skimmer on a Brackish tank is dependent on the salinity level. If you are keeping the tank at a high SG then I would recommend the skimmer. The skimmer only becomes a good idea when you start to get closer to the SW side of Brackish.
