| My box anthia was always hiding in its own little cave and wasnt very social. Now he is all over the tank, becoming very territorial and spends hours a day swimming head first against the front glass as if it was trying to swim through it. he's not slamming into it so he's not getting injured. Whats the deal? has anyone else had a fish do this?;)

I'm not sure what it is doing, but from what I know of anthias, they tend to be oddballs in terms of behavior (like the fact that they swim at all angles...sometime even totally nose-down). They are also pretty social, so if it is seeing a reflection it may be trying to swim with it (or fight it...males don't like other males). Those are my two best guesses, but I could easily be wrong since I have no experience with this type of fish.

| Yeah, i noticed that it was swimming funny in the store and they said that was normal. Im pretty sure i have a male as well so your idea that it may be seing a reflection and defending itself makes sense. my girlfriend said something similar and i kinda just dismissed that idea. I figured if i can see into the tank clearly with no reflection then they should see out with no problem. Oh well, 2 to 1, girls win!!!;)

saltyfresh said:Oh well, 2 to 1, girls win!!! I hate it when that happens! :D I recently purchased a Maroon clownfish that exhibited the same behavior for the first couple of days. After that it swam around normally. I figure they're just establishing the boundries.
So many species, so little money!

| the strange thing is that this anthia has been in the tank for a couple weeks now and just recently, within the last wk, started doing this. It's almost funny but i feel bad, it really looks mad at something.
