If you've had your air pump for 3 years, (like me!) then it may make an EXTREMELY loud and annoying clicking sound. Considering gas prices, DON'T go and get a new one. If it has a rubber bottom plate thing, and the sound goes away when you press on it, unscrew the bottom. There should be 2 plastic things with screws that vibrate; when the screws touch they make that sound; take the screwdriver and push the plastic things back. Now it should work. Take the rubber thing and screw it back on. Congratulations! You saved moneys on gas and aquarium supplies! Also, the materials used in your air pump may be different from mine, but the design should be the same. I am not responsible for death caused by electricution. Thank you.

I'd hate to say it, but I think I may have been utterly out-smarted by a fish.

:D:D:D I was gonna suggest unpluggin the darn thing first but excellent advice anyway. My airpump has a repair kit (I think it's like $5) but I've only done it once in 8yrs.  It's as quiet as the first day!  http://www.petsolutions.com/Luft-Pump+I96301655+C10.aspx  "T"
