Pouring the bag water into the tank water will change the pH, KH, and GH. The ammonia and nitrite get processed and the nitrate just stays in the tank water. I wouldn't be too worried as the bag water is relatively little to the tank water.

I see that my 4 neons and my 2 neons are aggressive to each other. It has qutie calmed down though after 2 days. The aggressiveness is still visible but I don't see that as a problem.

Some fish, like jsmith already mentioned, settle faster than others. Depending on the decor and other factors like size, some might be more established, seeing no other fish around and others quite timid due to the fact that decor is sparsely placed. I'd see a change in that as they will stay together more often with the other 3 added.

Yes, these are quite the adorable fishes. They stay small and also are so tiny that it makes them look even more adorable in the lfs.

Hello,

Whether or not the bag water is bad partially depends on the water source and the water dynamics of your aquarium. In a new tank, your cycle should be able to handle any extra N-compounds just fine. No less, the real concern is disease. You don't want a disease in the pet shop water to travel into your tank, but this isn't much of an issue in your case as the fish you have would have already been exposed to the disease if there was one (they were shipped in their own tank water).

As to the neons' behavior, hiding and aggression are normal when first introduced to an aquarium. To help them, though, you can shut off the tank light for a day or two so that they have a chance to explore the tank without feeling exposed. Also, as more fish are added, the neons will be less aggressive towards each other.

As to the neon with the torn fin(s), if it is only the ends of the fins (not getting down to the skin), then it should heal by itself provided the water is clean (I know you're doing just that, so I'm not worried). On the other hand, if the tear reaches the flesh, then that could be a problem. Generally, it's best to inspect the fish in the bag while at the pet shop. (Though torn fins aren't generally too bad ever.)

They seemed to be acting better today. They zipped right to the top when I fed then this AM. It's just the tips of the fins. I didn't even notice it when they were in the bag at the store. Only once I got them home, I noticed it. I'm not so concerned about disease because there were no dead fish in the tank at the store, they said the tanks are all on individual systems, and the neons had been in the store 3 weeks. I'm guess I'm just overly neurotic now b/c I don't want a repeat of my goldfish nightmare, so I'm noticing every little thing and worrying about it. So far, so good though......

Until then, enjoy your fishies and remember DO NOT FRET! (Yeah, that probably doesn't help much.)

Thanks guys for all your help. I'll definitely let you guys know as I add the rest in. I put reminders in so I wouldn't add too soon. It's gonna take until mid-October before the tank's fully stocked!

Having such small fish isn't too great on the nerves. I got home from work, didn't see them. They were together behind a rock and plant. Now they're all around the front of the tank. I just can't wait until the tank's fully stocked!
