I have a male betta fish and one of my little brothers (niether of them will admit yet) put an algea chip in his tank for the snail. I don't feed my snail in the tank but take him out in another tank to feed because the betta fish will steal the food and eat it. Well betta ate all of it and his stomach is like 4 or 5x its usual size. What do I do now? I took the last few bits of algea chip out and plan on not feeding him for a few days. He is still searching for food but will go rest in his cave for a few minutes like he has a stomach ache which I am sure he does. I just don't want him to die. Thanks.
My Tanks: 15 gallon: 1 female red wag platy, 1 female sunburst play, 3 black skirted tetras, 1 plecosomas, 1 mystery snail 3 gallon: 1 male crowntail betta 1 gallon: 1 female crowntail betta Pond: 1 Map turtle, asorted minnows Other pets....3 rabbits, 2 red ear sliders, chickens, ducks, horse, Fainting goat

| Yes, don't feed it for 2-3 days. It'll give a break on the digestive system and prevent blockage. If it actually does become blocked, starve it for half a week, and feed it peas. Just take off the outer shell and use the little 2 buds inside. Cut them up into fish bite size pieces and feed it mixed with its favorite meal. They will sink, try feeding the peas after a tiny, I MEAN TINY, amount of its favorite meal. Hope it all turns out for the better.

you may want to shut off the lights and try to keep the room as silent as possible for now, as well. With that much (wow!) in his stomach, things are very cramped in his body cavity right now. The last thing he needs is to get over-excited about anything.

Thanks for the advice, his stomach is only about twice as big as it should be now. I have the tank light dimmed and he is acting normal.

Looks as if blockage wasn't the course it took.

| it really depends it may be a blockage that if it doesnt clear in two days i would call pet shops first thing or he could be getting over fed to where it is hes just plain out of shape like the people who clean my lungfish tank always yell at me about my over wieght pleco is that i need to not feed him for up to 5 days since almost all fish can go ten days with out food but more then five and that could kill the critter. pet shops feed fish 3 times a week though that wont work to well with bigger fish with bettas 3 to 4 times a week for food is just right
