| i brought home two harlequin rasboras yesterday...added to tank with three xray tetras and 5 zebra danios. one rasbora is gone...have looked everywhere! kind of creepy...is one of my darlings to blame??? thanks for any clues...

| Remind me...What other fish are in the tank (altogether)? What kind of a filter do you have (some filters and little harlequins don't get along)? What "darlings" are you referring to? Sorry, I'm just trying to see where you're coming from. MOA

| Also, what size tank to you have? And remember to give us the numbers of the other fish in the tank, also. It'll help us give you better information for this problem and possible future ones. Good luck!

| As a side note, all your schooling fish don't have schools. X-ray tetras or any other tetra need at least 6 of their own kind to feel safe in the tank. The danios also would like another tankmate... The harlequin rasboras are yet another tight schooling fish, so at least 6; 2 is just too little. These guys can be skittish if kept in numbers too small and the one that "disappeared" may actually be hiding very well. Or... it jumped out because the lid wasn't exactly tight-fitting and was scared when it did. But rasboras aren't jumpers in my experience. Where could it be? 1. Filter sucked it up (not too great...) 2. Hiding (I hope so) 3. Other unmentioned tankmates ate it (not as great either...) 4. Jumped out of the tank (possible) 5. Died. (simply awful) Any other possibilities?

| i still haven't found missing rasbora - the second one was found dead the next morning...up against filter. so...i fear the other is no longer with us. dead fish STRESS MY OUT! i feel like a loser! thanks for your earlier help.

| i did give numbers of other fish. but it is a 10 gallon tank. anyway...other rasbora died...never found the first one. ugh. thanks for your help.

| I'm sorry that you lost the two harlequins. :( But now that that issue is resolved, albeit for the worse, you can turn your attention to solving other problems in your tank. The tank is too small for the number of fish you have in there now, in my opinion. Both the danios and the tetras require schools of at least six, and danios are such active fish that they require a larger tank; I recommend at least a 20-gallon long to give them adequate swimming space. The x-ray tetras also need six or more friends to be happy, and I wouldn't keep six of them in a 10-gallon tank. It's doable, but you have to be diligent about water changes, and there wouldn't be much room in the tank for other fish. I would upgrade to a larger tank, or change the species you've got stocked.
