I was told about a hob filter that is new on the market, ther have outside power filters that have the motors on the intake tube and therefore in the water as upposed to in the filter. and they have plastic cages that stay in place when you pull out  the filter cartridges.

Bingo -- that's one of them. The other brand is equally well known. These filters are truly a major improvement over what we have been using for the past yea these many years.

Actually, that wasn't what I was thinking of. I tested and reviewed the new MARS/RENA filter for my column "In The Fishroom" in FAMA, and it is also an excellent filter.

What the hey -- the other one I was thinking of is the new filter from Tetra. These new filters from Tetra and Aqueon are an excellent new technology -- great improvements over existing hob filters.
