| Ok, I did a water change on thursday (8-21) bought fish on friday, all levels were zero, bought 2 angel fish, 2 dwarf gouramis, 2 cory's,(yes, I will be adding more), immediatly one gourami began swimming at the bottom, hiding alot, not eating well, the other fish were fine, I thought maybe he just needs to get used to the tank....now sunday(8-24) he began laying on his side at the bottom of the tank....nitrites, nitrates zero, pH between 7 and 7.5, according to my strip test....I dont have an ammonia test kit , but the levels were zero the day I bought the fish, according to the aqaurium store guy.......The research I've been doing suggest I do a water change again....He has no spots or defects, its a 44g, pentagon, newly seeded with the help of my other tank, need more info?.....Any suggestions? advise? Help?

medicdave (8/25/2008) Ok, I did a water change on thursday (8-21) bought fish on friday, all levels were zero, bought 2 angel fish, 2 dwarf gouramis, 2 cory's,(yes, I will be adding more), immediatly one gourami began swimming at the bottom, hiding alot, not eating well, the other fish were fine, I thought maybe he just needs to get used to the tank....now sunday(8-24) he began laying on his side at the bottom of the tank....nitrites, nitrates zero, pH between 7 and 7.5, according to my strip test....I dont have an ammonia test kit , but the levels were zero the day I bought the fish, according to the aqaurium store guy.......The research I've been doing suggest I do a water change again....He has no spots or defects, its a 44g, pentagon, newly seeded with the help of my other tank, need more info?.....Any suggestions? advise? Help? Was the fish ok in the LFS tank? Was the fish ok Wa the fish ok in the transit bag when you got home? Not all fish have the same tolerence levels when it comes to stress, this fish might be a very sensitive one and the stress from tank to bag to tank just got to him.He may not show any signs of disease right now, but shortly he could and pass it on to the other fish in the tank. I can never ADVICATE enough about QUARENTINE enough..... buy one fish at a time or one species(group) at a time...... Quarentine, observe(medicate if needed) then transfer to a main tank only after 2wks(minimum) 4wks(better). you say in the post that you have other tank/tanks? so I gather you are not new to the hobby by the way do you have a quarintine tank? I can only suggest you get the fish(who is acting strange out of the main tank and into something else quick and work from there. I will get off my soapbox now, hope i didn't offend.;)
Shakespere says...to be or not to be? Fish hobbiests say....To buy or not to buy!

Err, did you cycle your tank before adding the fish? If you were cycled before adding the fish, you should be showing nitrates.
20 gallon long
Lionhead - Kiko
Calico Lionhead - Little Bean
29 gallon
Fantail - Oliver
Black Moor - Damian
Calico Ryukin - Serafina
2.5 gallon

| Sorry for your loss. But as a piece of advice for later, you shouldn't really treat anything in a tank if you have no clear idea of what to treat for. Medicating unnecessarily can cause effects that are exactly the opposite. Like stressing your fish instead of helping it cope with the stress. But maybe it was a bad gourami. Try another one; who knows what the result will be this time.
