I was given a complete tank setup(minus stand) today,the person had no idea what the gal. capacity was.The tank is 36x12x12, if anyone knows what the capacity(gal) is the info would be appreciated.;)

If you multiply the 3 dimensions and divide the total by 231 -- it gives you the US gallons of the tank.

I actually needed to know the gallon rating of a fountain outside one of the classroom buildings here at college - how would one work the formula for a more irregular setup? It's really more of a semicircle, so can I alter the formula to estimate its size?

Nikita, I don't know just how irregular the fountain is, but if there's a way to calculate the volume, then you can just divide that by 231. So if it was a circular fountain with a flat bottom, then you want the equation for the volume of a cylinder, for instance. If it's a basin shape, you would use the equation for a sphere times a fraction.
If it's a truly random shape, then you ask MOA. haha.:P
